"HUMMER is the king of the mountain for off-road vehicles," said Clay Dean, brand character chief designer for HUMMER. "The SUT, like its brother the H2 SUV, has unbelievable, class-leading, off-road capability. This truck is untamed and built for individuals with a rugged spirit because it can go anywhere and do anything."
Derived from the production intent 2003 H2, the SUT concept vehicle is functional, versatile and almost endlessly reconfigurable, to exceed even the most demanding consumer's standards.
"Unlike many show trucks, the SUT concept vehicle evolved from the production-intent H2 SUV, which has undergone extensive testing on some of the most rigorous and intense off-road trails in the world," said Terry Henline, H2 chief designer.
The short overhangs of the SUT concept vehicle allow for radical approach and departure angles and exceptional ground clearance for minimal impact on trails. The 17-inch wheels and heavy-duty independent front suspension and 5-link rear suspension provide superior handling, carrying and towing capability.
"Extreme functionality was the overriding objective in designing the H2 SUT concept," said Henline, "and this quality is apparent in every detail of the truck."
The SUT concept vehicle has the characteristic hooks on the hood, which provide a convenient handle for lifting the clamshell hood. Sturdy latches secure the hood and are plainly visible on the front flanks. Polished metal also graces the vertical port grille and other functional exterior parts for durability and rugged good looks.
A distinctive feature of the SUT concept vehicle is its folding bulkhead at the rear of the passenger compartment that allows customers to have the flexibility to reconfigure this area for carrying people or cargo. This space is easily accessible since the rear window of the cab powers down into the bulkhead, which can then be folded flat into the floor. When the bulkhead is in its upright position the H2 SUT concept vehicle can carry up to five passengers comfortably.
